APPRAISER COMMENTS:

This peaceful scene is typical of the work by Walter Emerson Baum
(1884-1956). His paintings were almost exclusively small town and
countryside scenes from his native Pennsylvania. In addition to being a
painter, he was a museum direct, teacher, and critic. He also was
considered the “father of art in the Lehigh Valley.” Based on
comparative data for other W. E. Baum paintings recently sold, and
considering the similarities and differences for the condition, size,
artistic merit, and age, we have valued the subject painting as
indicated.
